Twelfth-ranked Lechugueros (9-21) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Toros (23-7) in Leon on Sunday. The visitors from Nuevo Laredo managed to secure only five-point victory 89-84. However their fans expected much easier game. Lechugueros were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 21-20 charge of Toros, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 11-6. Toros dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Lechugueros' 38. Toros forced 21 Lechugueros turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV, agency: ProSportsCareers) had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American-Nigerian forward Ike Ofoegbu (205-85, college: SMU) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) during the contest. The best for the losing side was Trinidad and Tobago-American point guard Ian Young (191-81, college: Auburn) with 37 points (!!!) and 5 assists and American swingman Michael Smith (201-76, college: La-Monroe) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toros have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Halc.Rojos. Loser Lechugueros keep the twelfth position with 21 games lost. Toros will meet at home Panteras (#5) in the next round. Lechugueros will play against Guerreros (#13) in Chilpancingo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
