Regular Season Round 19: Chiba Jets - Gunma 66-81

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Gunma (2-16) beat on the road higher ranked Chiba Jets (8-8) 81-66 on Sunday. Gunma shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. American players dominated also this game. It was a very good performance for power forward Lewis Witcher (207-87, college: Virginia Tech) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 20 rebounds. Guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh) contributed with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Gunma players scored in double figures. Forward Marquin Chandler (202-82, college: San Jose St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks and center Joe Werner (201-84, college: Wisc.-La Cros.) added 17 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Chiba Jets. Chiba Jets' coach Shinji Tomiyama tested ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gunma moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Miyazaki SS. Loser Chiba Jets keep the seventh position with eight games lost. Gunma will face higher ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (#8) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
