Regular Season Round 14: Beijing - Shenyang 88-89

The most exciting game of round 14 in the WCBA took place in Beijing. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th ranked Beijing Great Wall (7-7) to third ranked Shenyang Golden Lions (9-5) 89-88 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Beijing Great Wall. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 22-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great shooting night for Shenyang Golden Lions especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.3 percentage. The best player for the winners was the former international center Dan Liu (194-87) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. International forward LiJie Miao (178-81) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. American forward Sophia Young (186-83, college: Baylor) produced 34 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and South Korean guard Yeong-Ok Kim (170-74) added 14 points, 8 assists and 5 steals respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shenyang Golden Lions have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 9-5 record having just two points less than leader Shanxi. Beijing Great Wall at the other side dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Shanghai and Yunnan. Shenyang Golden Lions are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Heilongjiang Chenneng (#12) in Harbin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Beijing Great Wall will play on the road against the league's second-placed Zhejiang Far East (#2) in Hangzhou and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
