Regular Season Round 10: Maccabi Rishon - Maccabi Ashdod 75-84
Date: December 12, 2012
Bottom-ranked Maccabi Ashdod managed to get a second victory on Wednesday night. This time they won against seventh-ranked Maccabi Rishon in Rishon Le-Zion 84-75. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-15. But Maccabi Rishon won third quarter 25-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Diamon Simpson (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international point guard Dror Hagag (178-78, agency: Avi Zilberman) supported him with 19 points and 4 assists. Five Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) by American forward Julian Wright (203-87, college: Kansas) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Rishon. His fellow American import point guard Willie Warren (193-89, college: Oklahoma, agency: Interperformances) added 23 points for lost side. Maccabi Ashdod maintains twelfth position with 2-8 record. Maccabi Rishon lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with Hapoel T-A and Hapoel J-M. Maccabi Ashdod will meet at home higher ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#5) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Maccabi Rishon will play against Maccabi Haifa having rather not much hope for a victory.
