Regular Season Round 10: Tindastoll - IR 96-90
Date: December 13, 2012
Bottom-ranked Tindastoll managed to get the second consecutive victory. This time they won against ninth-ranked IR in Sauoarkrokur 96-90. And what about a second win in a row after ...seven consecutive loses. It looked good early as IR took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Tindastoll had a 27-22 second period charge getting the lead and IR was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 90-96. Tindastoll forced 26 IR turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. American forward George Valentine (203, college: Winthrop) notched a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international forward Throstur Johannsson (198-89) supported him with 22 points and 8 assists. Tindastoll's coach Bardur Eythorsson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 26 points, 5 assists and 5 steals by American guard Eric Palm (188-87, college: McKendree) did not help to save the game for IR. The former international forward Hreggvidur Magnusson (198-82) added 19 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tindastoll (2-7) moved-up to eleventh place. IR at the other side dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. Tindastoll will play against league's leader Grindavik on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. IR will play against Keflavik (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
