The game had a very big importance for second-ranked New Zealand Breakers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. New Zealand Breakers smashed 6th ranked Cairns Taipans in Auckland 97-76. New Zealand Breakers shot 61.3 percent from the field. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 32 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). New Zealand forward Dillon Boucher (196-75) contributed with 10 points and 5 assists for the winners. American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany) answered with 18 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Shane Edwards (201-87, college: UALR) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Cairns Taipans. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Cairns Taipans at the other side keep the sixth place with eight games lost. Cairns Taipans will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. New Zealand Breakers will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Cairns Taipans on the road.
