Regular Season Round 9: Kutaisi - MIA Academy 70-87

The game in Kutaisi was also worth to mention about. Third ranked MIA (7-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Kutaisi (5-3). MIA did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 87-70. It looked good early as Kutaisi took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then MIA had a 27-10 second period charge getting the lead and Kutaisi was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 70-87. MIA dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Kutaisi's 28. They outrebounded Kutaisi 40-18 including a 30-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. MIA players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a good game for American center Kirk Archibeque (205-84, college: Fort Lewis) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). International Merab Bokolishvili (198-92) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five MIA players scored in double figures. MIA's coach Giorgos Ketselidis allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International center Richard Matiashvili (207-89) answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and guard Buba Kvimsadze (195-82) added 18 points in the effort for Kutaisi. MIA keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Olimpi. Kutaisi at the other side keeps the fifth place with three games lost. MIA's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Dinamo Tbilisi.
