Regular Season Round 11: Panasonic T. - Toshiba BT 82-99

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Osaka where 4th placed Panasonic Trians (12-10) were defeated by fifth ranked Toshiba Thunders (11-11) 99-82 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 17 points. Toshiba Thunders dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Panasonic Trians' 36. Toshiba Thunders forced 19 Panasonic Trians turnovers and outrebounded them 33-20 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 9 rebounds. Swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) helped adding 8 points and 5 assists. American power forward Jameel Watkins (211-77, college: Georgetown) responded with 25 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and international swingman Kosuke Kanamaru (193-89) scored 25 points. Four Panasonic Trians players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Toshiba Thunders maintains fifth place with 11-11 record. Panasonic Trians lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the third position with ten games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face league's second-placed Toyota Alvark in Tokyo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panasonic Trians will play on the road against Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya.
