There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Mickiewicz (4-6) defeated 6th ranked Sudety (5-5) in Katowice 72-66 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-66. Mickiewicz forced 23 Sudety turnovers and outrebounded them 36-23 including 22 on the defensive glass. Forward Michal Batorski (199-88) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Power forward Maciej Strzelecki (204-87, agency: Promotex) contributed with 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Mickiewicz's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Rafal Niesobski (189-82) answered with 27 points and 5 steals and swingman Aleksander Raczek (193-92) added 9 points in the effort for Sudety. Mickiewicz moved-up to seventh place in Group B, which they share with HK Zory. Loser Sudety keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Mickiewicz will face Wschowa (#11) at home in the next round.
