The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Paulistano (6-1) in Sao Paolo on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by twelfth ranked Vila Velha (3-5) 90-80. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Paulistano. The guests trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 56-38 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Vila Velha made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Vila Velha especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. American guard Benzor Simmons (196-88, college: Tenn-Martin) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points. Guard Alexandre Pinheiro (185-85) contributed with 19 points and 8 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. American center Steven Toyloy (203-87, college: Cincinnati) replied with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Andre Luiz Brugger (192-81) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Paulistano. Four Paulistano players scored in double figures. Vila Velha moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Limeira. Paulistano at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Vila Velha is looking forward to face higher ranked Minas (#7) in Belo Horizonte in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Paulistano will play on the road against Mogi das Cruzes (#16) and is hoping to win this game.
