Regular Season Round 11: Tigers - Taipans 83-77

Bottom-ranked Melbourne Tigers managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of four consecutive loses on Sunday night. This time they won against sixth-ranked Cairns Taipans 83-77. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-77. American guard Jonny Flynn (183-89, college: Syracuse) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) contributed with 27 points for the winners. Four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany) answered with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and international power forward Cameron Tragardh (209-83, college: ORU) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Cairns Taipans. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Melbourne Tigers (3-8) moved-up to seventh place. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Melbourne Tigers will face higher ranked Wollongong Hawks (#3) in Gwynneville in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
