Regular Season Round 12: Energa Czarni - Stelmet ZG 89-98

There was a minor upset in Slupsk where 4th ranked Energa Czarni (8-5) was defeated by sixth ranked Stelmet ZG (8-4) 98-89. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It looked good early as Energa Czarni took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Stelmet ZG had a 23-15 second period charge getting the lead and Energa Czarni was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 89-98. Stelmet ZG dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Energa Czarni's 40 and made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. It was a good game for U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory with 33 points (!!!), 6 assists and 5 steals. Serbian power forward Oliver Stevic (204-84, agency: Beo Basket) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. American center Bertengeh Gadri-Nicholson (208-83, college: Denver) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and naturalized Israeli guard Oded Brandwein (186-88, agency: N.E.T.) added 17 points and 9 assists in the effort for Energa Czarni. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Stelmet ZG moved-up to second place, which they share with AZS Koszalin and Trefl Sopot. Energa Czarni at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Stelmet ZG's next round opponent will be Anwil (#7) in Wloclawek where they are favorite. Energa Czarni will play on the road against the league's leader PGE Turow in Zgorzelec.
