Date: December 16, 2012
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Etzella (10-4) against ninth ranked Basket Esch (5-9) on Sunday night. Visiting Etzella was defeated by Basket Esch in a tough game in Esch 77-85. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Etzella. The hosts were already 15 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 29-22 Etzella's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 85-77 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Etzella 34-21 including 26 on the defensive glass. International Martin Rajniak (204-78, college: CSU Bakersfield) notched 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and Slovakian power forward Stefan Svitek (203-77) supported him with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Even 20 points and 8 rebounds by American power forward Anthony Simpson (203-87, college: Kent St.) did not help to save the game for Etzella. The former international swingman Nelson Delgado (188-80) added 22 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Basket Esch moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Soleuvre. Etzella at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with Amicale. Basket Esch will play against league's leader Sparta in Bertrange in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Etzella will play at home against Black Star in Mersch and hopes to get back on the winning track.
