No shocking result in a game when third ranked Adelaide Lightning (9-4) beat at home 6th ranked Canberra Capitals (5-9) 70-52 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Adelaide Lightning. Canberra Capitals was better in fourth quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Adelaide Lightning dominated on the defensive end, holding Canberra Capitals to just 7 points in second quarter. Adelaide Lightning forced 24 Canberra Capitals turnovers. The former international center Laura Hodges (191-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 8 rebounds. Power forward Nadeen Payne (188-93) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Swingman Mikaela Dombkins (181-86) answered with 10 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Jessica Bibby (169-79) added 13 points in the effort for Canberra Capitals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Adelaide Lightning have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 9-4 record having four points less than leader Bendigo S. Canberra Capitals lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Adelaide Lightning will face bottom-ranked West Coast Waves (#9) in Perth in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Canberra Capitals will play at home against Townsville Fire and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
