Regular Season Round 10: Kavala - Panathinaikos 71-97

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Kavala (2-8) was crushed at home by fourth ranked Panathinaikos (8-2) 97-71 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Kavala was better in fourth quarter 23-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panathinaikos dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Kavala's 34. They outrebounded Kavala 42-11 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The former international forward Kostas Tsartsaris (209-79) fired 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. International swingman Michael Bramos (197-87, college: Miami, OH) chipped in 22 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Coach Argiris Pedoulakis's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American point guard Anthony Grundy (189-79, college: N.Carolina St.) produced 18 points, 6 assists and 4 steals and naturalized American center Steve Panos (206-88, college: Weber St.) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Four Kavala players scored in double figures. Panathinaikos have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with PAOK and Panionios. Loser Kavala keeps the twelfth position with eight games lost. Panathinaikos will face Apollon Patras (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Kavala will play against Kolossos (#8) in Rodou.
