LNBP top team - Halcones UV Xalapa (29-4) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Barreteros (13-20) in Zacatecas 114-93. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones UV Xalapa. Barreteros was better in third quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) nailed 25 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and the former international center Lorenzo Mata (205-86) accounted for 19 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Halcones UV Xalapa's coach Angel Gonzalez felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) came up with 29 points and 7 rebounds and guard Raul Navarro (192-84) added 20 points and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for Barreteros in the defeat. Five Halcones UV Xalapa and four Barreteros players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Halcones UV Xalapa. They maintain first place with 29-4 record. Barreteros lost their third game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 20 games lost. They share it with Corr.Victoria. Halcones UV Xalapa will play against Panteras (#5) in Aguascalientes in the next round. Barreteros will play at home against Halcones Rojos (#4) in Veracruz and hope to get back on the winning track.
