Very expected game in Tampico where 13th ranked Guerreros (8-26) were rolled over by eighth ranked Huracanes (20-13) 109-77 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Huracanes. Guerreros managed to win third quarter 25-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Huracanes dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Guerreros' 46. Huracanes forced 19 Guerreros turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Guerreros' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Huracanes made 9 blocks. The game was dominated by American players. Swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Edward Basden (196-83, college: Charlotte) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Huracanes' coach Luis Lopez felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Keith Gayden (202-83, college: Duquesne) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. Five Huracanes and four Guerreros players scored in double figures. Huracanes have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place. Guerreros lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the thirteenth position with 26 games lost. Huracanes will meet league's leader Halcones UV Xalapa on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Guerreros will play against Pioneros (#6) in Cancun and hope to secure a win.
