Regular Season Round 17: Liaoning - Shanxi 87-84

Round 17 in WCBA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Anshan where host Liaoning Hengye (10-7) edged league's leader Shanxi (13-4) 87-84 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Shanxi. Shanxi cut a 16-point halftime deficit to three at the end of the game. Liaoning Hengye made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Shanxi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 16 rebounds. International forward Zengyu Ma (183-84) chipped in 25 points and 4 steals. Four Liaoning Hengye players scored in double figures. Spanish Maya Moore (183-89, college: Connecticut) produced a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and point guard Jinzhu Wu (175-88) added 10 points and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Liaoning Hengye moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Jiangsu. Newly promoted Shanxi still keeps top position with four games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Zhejiang who have the same record. Shanxi will play next round against strong Shenyang Golden Lions trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Liaoning Hengye will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Henan Elephants in Jiyuan.
