There was no surprise in Harbin where 12th ranked Heilongjiang Chenneng (3-14) was defeated by fourth ranked Jiangsu Phoenix (10-7) 93-88 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-18. But Heilongjiang Chenneng won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Heilongjiang Chenneng 43-20 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American center Krystal Thomas (195-89, college: Duke) who had a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 20 rebounds. International center Xu Nuo (197-87) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Jiangsu Phoenix players scored in double figures. The former international guard YanYan Ji (182-85) produced 37 points (!!!) and 6 assists and the former international center JiaCen Liu (193-89) added 25 points respectively for the hosts. Jiangsu Phoenix maintains fourth place with 10-7 record, which they share with Liaoning. Heilongjiang Chenneng lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Jiangsu Phoenix will face Beijing Great Wall (#6) at home in the next round. Heilongjiang Chenneng will play against Shanghai Octopus (#7).
