Regular Season Round 23: Akita NH - Saitama Bron. 87-84
Date: December 23, 2012
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Saitama Broncos (2-16) were edged on the road by sixth ranked Akita Happinets (13-7) 87-84 on Sunday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-84. Strangely Saitama Broncos outrebounded Akita Happinets 46-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Marshall Brown (199-85, college: Missouri) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points and 5 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Anthony Kent (208-83, college: Ball St., agency: Top Notch Sports) helped adding 8 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Akita Happinets players scored in double figures. Akita Happinets' coach Kazuo Nakamura allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Dameion Baker (192-78, college: Mount Olive) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Takuma Yamashiro (167-85) scored 9 points and 18 rebounds. Akita Happinets moved-up to fifth place. Saitama Broncos lost ninth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with 16 games lost. Akita Happinets will have a break next round. Saitama Broncos will play on the road against Iwate Big Bulls (#3).
