Regular Season Round 16: Perugia - Matera 66-73

Very predictable result when third ranked Matera (11-4) won against on the road 16th ranked Perugia (4-10) 73-66 on Sunday. Perugia trailed by 14 points at halftime and as many as 18 after three quarters before a 20-9 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 66-73 at the end of the game. Matera made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Quite impressive performance for the former international power forward Massimo Rezzano (203-82) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Power forward Antonio Iannuzzi (207-91, agency: Two Points) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Matera players scored in double figures. Center Paolo Chiarello (204-78) replied with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Davide Poltroneri (195-85) added 24 points in the effort for Perugia. Perugia's coach Andrea Fabrizi tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Matera moved-up to second place. Perugia lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventeenth position with ten games lost. Matera will face league's leader Torino at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Perugia will play against Latina Basket (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
