There was no surprise in Tokyo where 8th ranked Hokkaido L. (3-21) was defeated by fourth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (14-10) 76-66 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hitachi Sunrockers. Hokkaido L. was better in third quarter 24-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was German power forward Tilo Klette (206-77) who recorded a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds and the former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) added 21 points respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hitachi Sunrockers have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Panasonic T. Hokkaido L. lost fourth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 21 lost games. Hitachi Sunrockers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tokyo Toyota Alvark.
