Very predictable result when fifth ranked Liaoning Hengye (11-7) won against 11th ranked Henan Elephants (5-13) in Jiyuan 79-70 on Tuesday. Liaoning Hengye outrebounded Henan Elephants 35-19 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the former international forward Xiaoli Chen (193-82) supported her with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Even 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by American power forward Jayne Appel (193-88, college: Stanford) did not help to save the game for Henan Elephants. Swingman Jie Sun (183-91) added 21 points and 4 assists. Liaoning Hengye have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Shenyang and Jiangsu. Loser Henan Elephants keep the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Liaoning Hengye will meet at home league's leader Zhejiang Far East in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Henan Elephants will play against Shenyang Golden Lions (#4) in Dandong and hope to secure a win.
