There was no surprise when 12th ranked Lille Metropole (6-10) lost at home to sixth ranked SO Maritime Boulogne (10-6) 92-83 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 27-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. SO Maritime Boulogne dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Lille Metropole's 36. The winners were led by power forward Mickael Var (205-90) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds and American power forward Kurt Cunningham (204-87, college: Boise St.) supported him with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Four SO Maritime Boulogne players scored in double figures. Even 23 points and 9 rebounds by American Steve Smith (200-81, college: Iona) did not help to save the game for Lille Metropole. His fellow American import Jason Siggers (188-85, college: Albany) added 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. SO Maritime Boulogne maintains sixth position with 10-6 record. Loser Lille Metropole dropped to the thirteenth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Nantes and Hyeres-Toulon. SO Maritime Boulogne will meet at home Charleville-Mezieres (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Lille Metropole will play against SPO Rouen (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
