Not a big story in a game when 16th ranked Gigantes (3-32) were outscored by fifth ranked Panteras (23-12) in Toluca 106-81. The game without a history. Panteras led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Gigantes' 30. Panteras forced 27 Gigantes turnovers. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83, agency: Paris Global Sports) who scored 35 points (!!!) and 6 assists. The former international guard Karim Malpica (190-78) chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Panteras' coach Juan Cardona felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American power forward Joseph Kennerly (204-84, college: Cent.Oklahoma) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import forward Kevin Johnson (201-84, college: Humboldt St.) added 22 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for the hosts.
