Regular Season Round 35: Halc.Xalapa - Huracanes 100-88

LNBP top team - Halcones UV Xalapa (31-4) managed to deliver another win on Friday. This time they beat seventh ranked Huracanes (20-14) 100-88. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Huracanes. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones UV Xalapa. Huracanes managed to win third quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Halcones UV Xalapa looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Huracanes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (185-86, college: W.Kentucky) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!). American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) contributed with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. The former international point guard Omar Quintero (183-81, college: S.Nazarene) answered with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American swingman Edward Basden (196-83, college: Charlotte) added 15 points and 4 assists in the effort for Huracanes. Four Halcones UV Xalapa and five Huracanes players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Halcones UV Xalapa have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 31-4 record. Huracanes at the other side dropped to the eighth position with 14 games lost. Halcones UV Xalapa are looking forward to face Correcaminos (#10) in Ciudad Victoria in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Huracanes will play on the road against Halcones Rojos in Veracruz and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
