Everything went according to plan in Toluca where eleventh ranked Barreteros (14-22) outscored bottom-ranked Gigantes (3-33) 93-71 on Saturday. The game without a history. Barreteros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Gigantes' 38. They outrebounded Gigantes 45-28 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Barreteros looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was guard Jason Horton (188-86, college: Missouri) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists. Forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Horton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Joseph Kennerly (204-84, college: Cent.Oklahoma) who recorded 27 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) and forward Kevin Johnson (201-84, college: Humboldt St.) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Barreteros moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Corr.Victoria. Gigantes lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 33 lost games. Barreteros will meet at home Gansos (#15) in the next round where they are favorite. Gigantes will play against Pioneros in Cancun and hope to secure a win.
