There was no surprise in Ciudad de Mexico where 15th ranked Gansos (6-31) were defeated by sixth ranked Pioneros (24-12) 99-93 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 30-11 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Pioneros had a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Hector Hernandez (206-85, college: Fresno St.) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds. The former international guard Forrest Fisher (193-80) chipped in 25 points. Pioneros' coach Josep Claros used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) who recorded 26 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists and forward Alejandro Zarco (205-85) added 18 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pioneros have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Panteras. Gansos lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the fifteenth position with 31 games lost. Pioneros will meet at home bottom-ranked Gigantes (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gansos will play against Barreteros in Zacatecas and hope to secure a win.
