Regular Season Round 37: Panteras - Guerreros 109-86

Not a big story in a game in Aguascalientes where 13th ranked Guerreros (8-29) were rolled over by fifth ranked Panteras (25-12) 109-86. The game was mostly controlled by Panteras. Guerreros was better in second period 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panteras dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Guerreros' 52. They outrebounded Guerreros 43-31 including a 36-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Panteras players were unselfish on offense dishing 41 assists comparing to just 23 passes made by Guerreros' players. It was a very good performance for naturalized Puerto Rican guard Jesus Mora (191-86) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 4 assists. Power forward Alberto Gonzalez (203-85) contributed with 16 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Mora is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Panteras players scored in double figures. Panteras' coach Juan Cardona felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Fernando Calixto (184-79) answered with 30 points and 4 assists and guard Yitzahak Castro (183-76) added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Guerreros. The victory was the third consecutive win for Panteras. They maintain fifth place with 25-12 record, which they share with Pioneros. Guerreros lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the thirteenth position with 29 games lost. Panteras' next round opponent will be Gansos (#15) in Ciudad de Mexico and are hoping to win another game. Guerreros will play on the road against Barreteros in Zacatecas.
