Very important is a road loss of third ranked Meridiano Alicante (8-5) against twelfth ranked Caceres Basket (5-8) on Friday night. Visiting Meridiano Alicante was edged by Caceres Basket in a tough game in Caceres 64-65. Meridiano Alicante was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. They outrebounded Meridiano Alicante 41-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. American forward Antonio Pena (203-86, college: Villanova) stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and power forward Roberto Morentin (206-81, college: Cent.Florida) chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American forward Taylor Coppenrath (205-81, college: Vermont) responded with 8 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Pedro Rivero (186-79) scored 11 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Caceres Basket moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with FCB Regal II. Meridiano Alicante at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. They share it with Palencia. Caceres Basket will play against Melilla Baloncesto (#13) at home in the next round. Meridiano Alicante will play against CB Clavijo (#7) in Logrono and hopes to get back on the winning track.
