Regular Season Round 15: York - Ottawa 44-68
Date: January 4, 2013
There was no surprise in Toronto where 7th ranked York (1-8) was crushed by second ranked Ottawa (6-3) 68-44 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Ottawa. York was better in third quarter 15-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They held York to an opponent 24.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 49.1 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded York 42-31 including a 38-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ottawa looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was power forward Jenna Gilbert (183, college: La Salle) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Maddie Stephen (186) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was French guard Cyrielle Recoura (172-91) who recorded 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Courtney Osborne (180) added 16 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Ottawa. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with TRU and Carleton. York lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh place with eight games lost. Ottawa will face Laurentian (#5) in Greater Sudbury in the next round. York will play at home against the league's leader Carleton in Ottawa.
