Regular Season Round 13: Hawks - Breakers 76-78

The most exciting game of round 13 in the NBL took place in Gwynneville. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th placed Wollongong Hawks (8-6) to first ranked New Zealand Breakers (12-3) 78-76 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 78-76. New Zealand Breakers dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Wollongong Hawks' 24. They outrebounded Wollongong Hawks 39-22 including 27 on the defensive glass. American power forward Will Hudson (206-89, college: Oakland) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. New Zealand Breakers' coach Andrej Lemanis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Rhys Martin (193-86, college: Nova SE) produced 28 points and 5 steals and American guard Lance Hurdle (188-87, college: Miami, FL) added 12 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. New Zealand Breakers have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 12-3 record. Wollongong Hawks lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with six games lost. New Zealand Breakers are looking forward to face Townsville Crocodiles (#6) in Wulguru in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Wollongong Hawks will play at home against Cairns Taipans and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
