Regular Season Round 25: Yokohama BC - Niigata Albirex 75-74

Round 25 in BJ League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Yokohama where host Yokohama BC (17-6) edged league's leader Niigata Albirex (17-7) 75-74 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Niigata Albirex. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Niigata Albirex was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 22-20 charge of Yokohama BC, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Niigata Albirex outrebounded Yokohama BC 41-18 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Draelon Burns (194-85, college: De Paul, agency: Top Notch Sports) fired 26 points for the winners. Swingman Masayuki Kabaya (183-82) chipped in 23 points. Yokohama BC's coach Reggie Geary used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American center Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont, agency: Top Notch Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the other American import guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) added 22 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures. Yokohama BC have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Iwate Big Bulls. Niigata Albirex at the other side dropped to the third place with seven games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Yokohama BC. Niigata Albirex will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Yokohama BC will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Niigata Albirex at home.
