Regular Season Round 16: Laurentian - Ottawa 77-87

Date: January 5, 2013
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Gee-Gees (9-1) beat 5th ranked Voyageurs (5-5) in Sudbury, ON 87-77 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gee-Gees. Voyageurs was better in fourth quarter 26-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gee-Gees forced 20 Voyageurs turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 63.6 percentage. It was a very good performance for guard Johnny Berhanemeskel (185) who helped to win the game recording 26 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots). The former international guard Warren Ward (196-89) contributed with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Gee-Gees' coach James DeRouin used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Alex Ratte replied with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Josh Budd (186) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Voyageurs. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gee-Gees have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Carleton and Alberta. Voyageurs lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
