Regular Season Round 16: McMaster - Laurier 93-84

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Golden Hawks (2-7) lost to fourth ranked Marauders (4-5) in Hamilton, ON 84-93 on Saturday. Golden Hawks were trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 26-16 charge of Marauders, which allowed them to win the game. Marauders shot 31 for 43 from the free-throw line, while Golden Hawks only scored fifteen points from the stripe. Marauders forced 19 Golden Hawks turnovers and outrebounded them 54-39 including a 23-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Golden Hawks were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for guard Aaron Redpath (193) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 9 rebounds. Center Taylor Black (201) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Five Marauders players scored in double figures. Guard William Coulthard (188) replied with 39 points (!!!) and forward Garrison Thomas (190) added 8 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Golden Hawks. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Marauders moved-up to third place, which they share with St.Francis X. Golden Hawks lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Marauders will face Gryphons (#5) in Guelph, ON in the next round. Golden Hawks will play at home against the league's leader Lancers in Windsor, ON.
