Regular Season Round 39: Osos - Halc.Rojos 81-108

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Osos (6-34) were crushed at home by second ranked Halcones Rojos (32-8) 108-81 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones Rojos. Osos was better in third quarter 29-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Halcones Rojos dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Osos' 40. They outrebounded Osos 42-26 including 16 on the offensive glass. Halcones Rojos looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international center Isaac Gutierrez (204-84) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). American guard Curtis Stinson (191-83, college: Iowa St.) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Coach Eddie Casiano's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Michael Helton (198-87, college: Hawaii-Pacific) who recorded 23 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import swingman O'Louis McCullough (198-82, college: Francis Marion) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Halcones Rojos. They maintain second place with 32-8 record having just two points less than leader Halc.Xalapa. Osos lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the fifteenth position with 34 games lost. Halcones Rojos will have a break next round. Osos will play again at home against the league's second-placed Halcones Rojos (#2) in Veracruz.
