Regular Season Round 19: Manitoba - Victoria 82-79

Date: January 12, 2013
There was a small surprise in Winnipeg, MB where fourth ranked Bisons (7-5) edged much higher ranked Vikies (7-5) 82-79 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 82-79. It was a great evening for forward Yigit Ozsayiner (198) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Stephan Walton (178-87, college: Valdosta St.) helped adding 24 points. Walton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side Michael Acheampong responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Kyle Peterson scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Vikies' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Bisons moved-up to second place, which they share with Victoria and UFV. Bisons will face Mount Royal (#7) in Calgary, AB in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
