Regular Season Round 40: Panteras - Huracanes 89-83

Date: January 12, 2013
Not a big story in a game in Aguascalientes where 8th ranked Huracanes (22-18) were defeated by fifth ranked Panteras (28-12) 89-83. Huracanes were ahead by 3 points at the halftime before a 53-44 second half run of Panteras. They also forced 26 Huracanes turnovers. The winners were led by Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83, agency: Paris Global Sports) who scored that evening 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists and the former international guard Karim Malpica (190-78) supported him with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Panteras' coach Juan Cardona allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 18 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals by American swingman Edward Basden (196-83, college: Charlotte) did not help to save the game for Huracanes. The former international forward Jesus Gonzalez (195-86) added 17 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Five Huracanes players scored in double figures. Panteras have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 28-12 record, which they share with Pioneros. Huracanes lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 18 games lost.
