There was an upset in San Sebastian where 3rd placed Valencia Basket (12-5) was defeated by eighteenth ranked Lagun Aro GBC (3-14) 76-68 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Valencia Basket won third quarter 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Lagun Aro GBC won last quarter 20-13. They also forced 21 Valencia Basket turnovers. The best player for the winners was American swingman Qyntel Woods (203-81, college: N.Mississippi JC) who scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. Center David Doblas (206-81) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Rafael Martinez (191-82) produced 16 points and American forward Justin Doellman (206-85, college: Xavier) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Lagun Aro GBC moved-up to seventeenth place. Valencia Basket at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Lagun Aro GBC will face higher ranked FIATC Joventut (#11) in Badalona in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valencia Basket will play on the road against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#16) in Madrid.
