Regular Season Round 12: Kavala - Aris 77-85

Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Aris (5-7) beat on the road 12th ranked Kavala (3-9) 85-77 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-19. But Kavala won second period 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Aris won last quarter 21-15. Aris outrebounded Kavala 34-22 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Michalis Pelekanos (198-81, agency: FCM) who scored 20 points. Power forward Kostas Charissis (212-79, college: USC, agency: FCM) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Aris' coach Vangelis Agelou used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Christoforos Stefanidis (184-80) who recorded 10 points and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and American forward William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four Aris and five Kavala players scored in double figures. Aris moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Peristeri GS and Apollon Patras. Loser Kavala keeps the twelfth position with nine games lost. They share it with Ilysiakos. Aris will meet at home Kolossos (#10) in the next round. Kavala will play against AGOR in Rethymno and hope to secure a win.
