Very expected game when 11th ranked HyPo (2-16) lost to seventh ranked HoNsU (10-8) in Jyvaskyla 44-60. The game without a history. HoNsU led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They held HyPo to an opponent 23.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.8 percent accuracy of the winners. HoNsU forced 19 HyPo turnovers. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was a great evening for the former international forward Minna Sten (189-87) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks. American guard Brandi Davis (183-83, college: Oregon) helped adding 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Phebe Smith (183, college: Columbus St., agency: Gamble Sports Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 24 rebounds and the other American import forward Kathlyn Varno (185-88, college: Wofford) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. HoNsU moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Huima. Newly promoted HyPo stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. HoNsU will play against Aanekosken (#6) in Aanekoski in the next round. HyPo will play at home against the league's second-placed Peli-Karhut (#2) in Kotka and hopes to get back on the winning track.
