Regular Season Round 14: Wildcats - Tigers 73-58
Date: January 13, 2013
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Perth Wildcats (11-4) beat at home 6th ranked Melbourne Tigers (5-9) 73-58 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Perth Wildcats. Melbourne Tigers managed to win fourth quarter 21-7. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Melbourne Tigers to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Melbourne Tigers 51-36 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international forward Shawn Redhage (203-81, college: Arizona St., agency: Warren Sports International) notched 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) to lead the effort and the former international power forward Matthew Knight (203-85, college: Loyola Mary) supported him with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. Even 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists by American guard Jonny Flynn (183-89, college: Syracuse) did not help to save the game for Melbourne Tigers. His fellow American import power forward Seth Scott (208-81, college: Portland St.) added 9 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Perth Wildcats have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-4 record having just three points less than leader Breakers. Loser Melbourne Tigers keep the sixth place with nine games lost. Perth Wildcats will meet at home Cairns Taipans (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Melbourne Tigers will play against Kings in Sydney and hope to secure a win.
