Regular Season Round 13: Hapoel Eilat - Maccabi Rishon 80-74
Date: January 13, 2013
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Hapoel Eilat (9-4) beat at home 6th ranked Maccabi Rishon (6-7) 80-74. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It looked good early as Maccabi Rishon took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hapoel Eilat had a 19-13 second period charge getting the lead and Maccabi Rishon was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-80. 24 personal fouls committed by Maccabi Rishon helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) fired 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Afik Nissim (186-81) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Hapoel Eilat players scored in double figures. American point guard Willie Warren (193-89, college: Oklahoma, agency: Interperformances) produced 23 points and the other American import forward Julian Wright (203-87, college: Kansas) added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Newly promoted Hapoel Eilat maintains second place with 9-4 record having just three points less than leader Maccabi T-A. Maccabi Rishon at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Hapoel Eilat's next round opponent will be Maccabi Haifa (#3) on the road, which may be the game of the day. Maccabi Rishon will play against the league's leader Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv.
