Regular Season Round 12: KR - Fjolnir 98-87
Date: January 13, 2013
No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked KR (8-4) beat 9th ranked Fjolnir (4-9) in Reykjavik 98-87 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by KR. Fjolnir was better in fourth quarter 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when KR made 8 blocks. It was a good game for the former international guard Brynjar Bjornsson (191-88, college: Francis Marion) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 6 assists. Martin Hermannsson (190-94) contributed with 19 points and 6 assists for the winners. KR's coach Helgi Magnusson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Christopher Smith (204-82, college: St.Edward's, agency: R.H.Consultancy) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 21 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international forward Ingvaldur Hafsteinsson (200-81) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Fjolnir. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. KR have a solid four-game winning streak. Despite that victory KR went down to fifth position due to points difference. Loser Fjolnir keeps the ninth place with nine games lost. KR will face bottom-ranked Tindastoll (#12) in Sauoarkrokur in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fjolnir will play against KFI and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
