There was no surprise when 11th ranked Saitama Broncos (3-21) were outplayed on the road by seventh ranked Chiba Jets (12-12) 98-66. The game without a history. Chiba Jets led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Saitama Broncos' 30 and made 27-of-32 charity shots (84.4 percent) during the game. Chiba Jets players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. Quite impressive performance for American center Joe Werner (201-84, college: Wisc.-La Cros.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import forward Marquin Chandler (202-82, college: San Jose St.) contributed with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. Four Chiba Jets players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets' coach Shinji Tomiyama felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Wayne Oliver (201-80, college: W.Hills JC) replied with 18 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Takuma Yamashiro (167-85) added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Saitama Broncos. Chiba Jets have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 12-12 record. Saitama Broncos at the other side keep the eleventh place with 21 games lost. Chiba Jets' next round opponent will be higher ranked Shinshu BW (#6) in Nagano and it may be quite challenging game. Saitama Broncos will play at home against the league's leader Niigata Albirex (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
