Regular Season Round 17: Real Madrid - G.Canaria 2014 90-54
Date: January 13, 2013
Not a big story in a game when 3rd placed G.Canaria 2014 (12-5) was outplayed on the road by first ranked Real Madrid (16-1) 90-54 on Sunday. The game without a history. Real Madrid led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Real Madrid made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Sergio Rodriguez (191-86) who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Naturalized Montenegrin power forward Nikola Mirotic (207-91) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Real Madrid players scored in double figures. American-Azerbaijani power forward Spencer Nelson (202-80, college: Utah St.) produced 9 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Ryan Toolson (193-85, college: Utah Valley) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Madrid maintains first place with 16-1 record. G.Canaria 2014 at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Real Madrid will face Unicaja Malaga (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. G.Canaria 2014 will play against Gescrap BB (#5) in Bilbao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
