Top ranked Cimberio Varese (13-2) recorded its second loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by tenth ranked Umana Venezia (7-8) 87-85. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Cimberio Varese. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cimberio Varese won third quarter 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Umana Venezia made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was Polish center Szymon Szewczyk (209-82) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). American-Bulgarian point guard Kee Kee Clark (180-84, college: St.Peter's) chipped in 24 points and 8 assists. Umana Venezia's coach Andrea Mazzon used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Mike Green (185-85, college: Butler) who recorded 26 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and the other American import power forward Bryant Dunston (202-86) added 21 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Umana Venezia moved-up to ninth place, which they share with JuveCaserta. Cimberio Varese at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Umana Venezia is looking forward to face higher ranked Cantu (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cimberio Varese will play against Enel Brindisi and is hoping to win this game.
