There was an upset in Taiyuan where higher ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (12-10) was defeated by sixteenth ranked Shanghai Sharks (7-15) 113-102 on Tuesday. It was a great shooting night for Shanghai Sharks especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Shanghai Sharks made 7 blocks. Shanxi Zhongyu was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for international point guard Wei Liu (190-80) who led his team to a victory scoring 37 points (!!!) and 5 assists. American guard Gilbert Arenas (192-82, college: Arizona) helped adding 28 points and 13 rebounds. American forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) responded with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and international forward JiangPeng Duan (197-90) scored 24 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Shanghai Sharks moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Jilin NE T. Shanxi Zhongyu lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. Shanghai Sharks will face higher ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (#7) in Hangzhou in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
