Regular Season Round 20: Waterloo - Laurier 60-88
Date: January 16, 2013
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Waterloo: Laurier (#4) and Waterloo (#8). Waterloo was smashed at home by 28 points 60-88 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Laurier dominated on the defensive end, holding Waterloo to just 5 points in second quarter. They also forced 23 Waterloo turnovers and outrebounded them 47-32 including 18 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by center Whitney Ellenor (190-91, college: Canisius) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and forward Alena Luciani (180) supported her with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Laurier's coach Paul Falco felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 13 points and 8 rebounds by guard Sam McIntyre (178) did not help to save the game for Waterloo. Swedish guard Erika Persson (178-88) added 12 points for the hosts. Laurier (6-6) moved-up to third place, which they share with Saskatchewan and Queen's. Waterloo at the other side still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
