Regular Season Round 15: Breakers - Hawks 72-71

Fourth-ranked Wollongong Hawks (8-9) gave a tough game to first ranked New Zealand Breakers (15-3) in Auckland on Thursday. New Zealand Breakers managed to secure only one-point victory 72-71. However their fans expected easier game. Wollongong Hawks were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. New Zealand Breakers had a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when New Zealand Breakers made 9 blocks. It was a great evening for New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points. American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) helped adding 10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. New Zealand Breakers' coach Andrej Lemanis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Dominican guard Adris Deleon (180-84, college: E.Washington) with 34 points (!!!) and 6 assists and the former international forward Oscar Forman (205-82) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. New Zealand Breakers have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 15-3 record. Wollongong Hawks lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with nine games lost. New Zealand Breakers are again looking forward to face Wollongong Hawks (#4) in Gwynneville in the next round. Wollongong Hawks will have a break next round.
